Fun Dog Show Packs Out Park

Around 120 pooches and their owners braved a soggy end to the afternoon on Sunday 12th April in Milnrow Memorial Park. Dogs of all sizes, breeds and ages turned out in force to enter categories such as ‘Waggiest Tale’ and ‘Dog that looks most like their owner’.

Organised by the Friends of Milnrow Park, the event had a slightly more serious side with stalls from Manchester Dog Trust and Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, informing people about their work and offering a free chipping service on the day.

Sue Hancox, who organised the event, commented “I am so pleased with the turn out, we were honestly expecting half these numbers, so it just goes to show what a great original idea it was for local people. I have been amazed at the variety of dogs we have in the local area and how well behaved everyone was. The dogs weren't too bad either!”

Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Andy Kelly said “It was a pleasure to come and help out today, The Friends group do some sterling work throughout the year, whether it’s this, the skate park or some of eth natural heritage projects planned for next year. They ought to be very proud of their achievements.”

The overall winner of the show was Rex, who won trophies, certificates, toys, chews and a portrait voucher.
