Firefighters Called To Milnrow Barn Blaze

Firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service responded to a high number of duplicate calls about a blaze that could be seen from the M62 in Milnrow.

The fire, a barn on Newfield Head Lane, was "well alight" when fire crews arrived just before 11pm on Thursday 23rd April 2015 and at its height around 25 firefighters and officers were in attendance.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using hose reels and a high pressure lance.

Watch Manager Tony Morgan, who was in charge of the incident initially, said: “We were greeted with a well alight barn and worked quickly to get water on to it.

“Wearing breathing apparatus we used hoses at first and then we applied the lance to stop the fire from growing to the other side of the barn.”

The incident was scaled down to two fire engines in the early hours of the morning and one crew will remain in attendance while fire investigation is carried out.
